ภาวะหนังตาตก คือหนังตาเริ่มหย่อนคล้อยลงมาบังชั้นตา หรือถ้าตกมากอาจจะบังการมองเห็นได้ เราสามารถประเมินได้จากหนังตาตกลงมาจนชนขนตาหรือไม่
ส่วนภาวะกล้ามเนื้อตาตก แยกกับหนังตาตก โดยดูที่ขอบเปลือกตา
ขอบเปลือกตาตามปกติจะคลุมตาดำประมาณ 1-2มม. ถ้าขอบเปลือกตา คลุมตาดำมากกว่านั้น อาจแสดงว่ามีภาวะกล้ามเนื้อตาตก
ภาวะกล้ามเนื้อตาตก อาจจะพบเดี่ยวๆ หรือพบร่วมกับภาวะหนังตาตกด้วยก็ได้
การแก้ไขสามารถทำการแก้ไขเฉพาะกล้ามเนื้อตาตกอย่างเดียว หรือ สามารถทำการตัดหนังตาร่วมด้วยก็ได้หากมีภาวะหนังตาตกร่วมด้วย
